The Ryedale windypits are slip rift potholes which can be found in and around the valley of Ryedale on the North York Moors.
The windypits are so called because of breezes which rise out of them from the depths when certain atmospheric conditions prevail. Prehistoric remains have been found in some of them, and there have even been rumours that evil bloodsucking gnomes sometimes also go lurking there too.
