More views of the North York Moors Railway
The North York Moors Railway is a heritage steam railway which crosses the North York Moors.
Starting at Pickering the railway passes through Levisham and Goathland (famous as "Aidensfield" in the popular TV series "Heartbeat") before terminating at Grosmont (or running on to Whitby on the Yorkshire Coast on some dates through the season).
The railway has been used in various film productions, with the station at Goathland having doubled as Hogsmeade station in "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" and the station at Grosmont was used as a filming location in "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny". Sections of the line were also used for the filming of "Mission Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" where the action in the story was actually supposedly set in Norway!
The railway also usually plays a starring role in the annual Pickering 1940s Weekend, with stops along the line recreating wartime stations such as e.g. "Le Visham".
